Because What’s On The Outside Matters Too
As wine shelves become more crowded, aesthetics play a larger role in making a memorable first impression.
The San Francisco International Wine Competition pays homage to these unique, thoughtful aesthetics in the Packaging Design Competition.
Brian Carter Cellars
If there is a constant star in the world of Washington wines, that star is Brian Carter. Since his arrival in 1980 to the small Washington wine industry (only sixteen wineries) to today (with over 1,000 wineries and growing weekly), Brian Carter’s influence has helped propel the industry to the international presence it deservedly commands.
Studio Black has enjoyed a longstanding and creative relationship with Brian Carter spanning nearly three decades. Brian and Stephen first started their creative working relationship in 1989 while Brian was winemaker for Apex Winery.
When Brian decided to start his own winery in 2006 he came to Studio Black to create the Brand Identity for the winery and the Brand image for his acclaimed collection of Old world, European-Style blended wines.
Working in close collaboration with Brian Carter and then managing partner Mike Stevens, we worked as a team to create the concepts and names for each of the wines. The studio then took that inspiration and created unique and distinctive pieces of art for each of the wines, which reflect each wine’s individual name and story.
Our objective was to visually express the artistic nature of the Art of Wine blending, for which Brian so creatively excels. A Passion for the Art of Blending became the mantra and driving creative force for the Brand’s development—eventually becoming the tagline for the winery.
